I have a love-hate relationship with Rihanna. Ok, that doesn’t make me sound like a fan girl does it? I like her straight-forward attitude, but at times it can be slightly over the top. Having said this though, the pop star has made headlines by being crowned the CFDA Fashion Icon of 2014. I think her sense of style also reflects her personality; straight-forward, edgy and sometimes over the top. So this week I will be focusing on the princess of pop’s style evolution.
Rihanna has gone through a somewhat style metamorphosis. From telling the DJ to ‘Pon De Replay’ (ok, I’m really sorry about that, I cringed at writing it but I couldn’t resist), and her ‘We Ride’ days (I need to confess that I may still listen to this song) she depicted the image of a good girl next door with beach denim shorts, long hair and lots of bangles.
2014 Paris Fashion Week marked the peak (in my opion) of Rihanna’s style evolution. Her outfits were exceedingly playful, eccentric and colourful. From a bright red full length coat to a green trench coats with pink lipstick (I’ll be honest I would not have thought those two colours mix together as well as they do), to a light violet and white knee length day dress, the lady is not afraid to try out different colours. Her confidence, excuberance and willingness to go all out, true RIRI style, is what has made her a fashion icon that should never be underestimated.
